I wouldn't suggest it. There are too many spiders, mites, ticks, ect. that could harm the snake. Also, most ball pythons don't need anything to climb on, they are terrestrial snakes. If you still want foliage and vines for visual purposes, go to a local pet store and get artificial vines and leaves. They're much safer and a lot nicer to look at then grubby stuff from the backyard.

if you get like rocks and such just make sure you boil them i have sticks in my viv from a tree out side i figured that since it was 20degrees out not to many insects would be on them i got them inside and i warmed them up using the hotest water my bath could put out and soaked them really good in the water. just be careful i dont think its all the bad. Its really neat to see your ball in the branch too I like it when he is on it.

I've taken grape vine and tree branches, de-barked them and then baked them in my oven at 200 for and hour or two. The baking accomplishes two things, one it dries out the wood and two it will kill and parasites and unwanted guests living in the wood.

    Re: Habitat from the wild

I would can the real wood idea just because if the snake pees or poops on it your going to have a real hard time getting it clean. I use a fake plastic tree type thing for all my snakes and they all use it so I think giving them something to climb on is a good thing. With plastic if they poop or pee (which is common) on it then you can just wash it off easily. In my gallery there should be a picture of what I use... I believe they cost me like 15$
