Looks like a BCI (Boa constrictor imperator) to me.

He looks to be a BCI to me.

BCC are generally referred to as True Red Tails, whereas BCI are sometimes called Common Boas. Most people call both BCI and BCC Red Tails though.

Common Boas, RTB's, and Columbians (unless specified) are BCI.

BCC Columbians are very rare in captivity.

    He/she is a BCI.

Re: What kind of boa is this ?

ok, so the only true way to really tell other than the fact that BCI is very common in captivity and based on the original descriptions is to count the scale rows is that right?

Re: What kind of boa is this ?

You can do that... but, with more experience, you'll be able to tell just by looking. There are a ton of markers that point to BCI versus BCC. You just have to know what to look for. And that knowledge just takes time.

In any case, I've posted it before and I'll post it again and again: Gus Rentfro www.riobravoreptiles.com

He is an awesome resource on localities. Take a look!

Re: What kind of boa is this ?

It's pretty much just an "educated guess". Visually, it does not appear to be a BCC.

If I remember correctly, someone has written up a faq on the web, describing several things to looks for to discern the two.

I believe, first and foremost is subcaudal, dorsal and ventral scale count. Then they count saddles, look at head shapes and coloration. It's a very tricky thing to get a 100% ID on an animal.
