Sick Snakes
Will sick snakes eat. The reason for my question is I got a pair of pastel het ghost and they had mouth rot and we have been nursing them back to health ( we have had them for around 6 weeks) They have been on 2 rounds of Baytril, nebulizer 2x per day and we have cleaned their mouth 2x per day with an oral mouth rinse, we also raised the temps and increased the humidity while trying to get them healthy. They seem to look alot better and they seem more healthy and they ate for the first time Sat. night and I am just curious if eating is a good sign.
Thanks for any input.

Re: Sick Snakes
I still have 10 injections every other day of Baytril so I will continue that, and i will also continue the Nebulization and mouth cleaning 2x per day until they are out of the woods. Thanks for the reply!

Re: Sick Snakes
Did they have the mouth rot when they arrived, and if so is the seller paying for the treatments?

Re: Sick Snakes
slartibartfast...
This a long story I will try and make short.
I bought a bumblebee package of 1.0 spider 0.1 pastel and 0.3 nornals. When they arrived the spider seemed to have RI so we went straight to vet, after 5 weeks he just seemed to get worse (we took him in for shots every other day for 5 weeks and treated him at home as well w/ nebulizer and mouth cleaner). The seller was updated on his progress from day one. I finally was at the end of my rope so the seller said to send him back and if he made it through shipping then he would see what he could do to get him healthy...he ended up dying...so he said he would give me a credit toward something else he had...we decided to go with the pastel het ghost pair and they both came in looking sick as well, I contacted him the minute they arrived and looked sick and his response was not good. He said...
Again huh...
Well as you said increasing the heat is the best thing to do and keep the enclosures away from any drafts.
Hope you had a great Holiday!
This was all I ever heard from him and I really don't expect he would do anything to make us happy.
Sorry for the long story, but i tried to make it short.
This is why I am hoping they will pull out...plus we really like these guys, it is hard to believe how attatched you can get to these animals in a month.

Re: Sick Snakes
Wow man.
I really feel bad for you. Hopefully your babies pull through, it seems like they are doing okay.
I personally think the seller should be paying for the vet bills, but I highly doubt that's going to happen judging by his attitude. And to top it off, what a wonderful last message. Pretty much ignoring the problem.
I totally agree with you on the last part, I just got my first ball python a few weeks ago and I absolutely adore him. It'd break my heart to see anything happen to him.
Best of luck to you.
1.0 Normal Ball Python
1.0 Western Hognose
0.1 Brazilian Rainbow Boa
1.0 Hypo Columbian Red Tail Boa

Re: Sick Snakes
The amount of time and effort we have put into them has almost been draining. We have quite a few other balls and their care is a drop in the bucket compared to the effort we have put into caring for these pastel het ghost. The seller started out acting like he wanted to do the right thing with the spider but after the pastel het ghost pair i think he lost interest.

Re: Sick Snakes
You should post the sellers info here and on the BOI (at fauna) so others know what the seller is like and to avoid him/her.
Good luck

Re: Sick Snakes
I have considered naming the seller but I have been hesitant, He did "make things right" with the spider that eventually died, the last time we corresponded he was polite but not very interested in "making things right". I really don't want to drag someones name through the mud in a public forum without them being able to defend themselves. If someone is interested in knowing the sellers name you can PM me and I will give his name.

I don't see how sending you more sick snakes made things right with the spider?
