Need help with temperature woes

How can a tub have 92-93 warm side, 82-84 cool side, and 74-75 ambient???

I have the tub with a UTH on each side, background on the back and adhesive felt on the sides, and 5 holes soldered at the top of all four sides. Shown here:



How can I fix that ambient temp and make sure it's warm enough in there without messing with the two side temps? Insulate the sides? The top? Close a few holes?

My room temps are usually around 68-70 since we have to cut back on expenses, and I have a Honeywell Surround Heat space heater that we use in the computer room (which is also where the pastel is in QT), but I always thought you couldn't run a space heater when you weren't in the room, sort of like burning candles.

Any help with this situation is welcome! I want to move Nagini into that tub ASAP. Thanks.

I just posted a simalar post to the General Herp forum also. My temps are very hard to regulate as well. I have my BP in a 10gal glass tank with one UTH and a heat light. My temps are either all warmer than the 85*F when I try to get the 90* basking spot, or there is only about 2* difference in the hot and cool end...having some serious problems with getting temps right. I get an average 87* warm side and 85* cool side. My temps stay within a couple degrees of each other...makes it real hard to get temp gradients right....

I would say in regards to the OP your set-up is fine. I would not mess with it at all. You have a good thermo gradient and a your ambient is still fine so leave it. I know many care sheet say that is the lowest ambient should get but your Ball will be fine.

Have you tried cutting off one of the heat sources. A lamp and and a UTH seem over kill for a tank that size. I will see if I can find your post to see if you put any more info about the set-up but I would start there.
