Re: ATB temperment
I have an ATB as well. He does not like to be touched. I think it all goes with if you handle it and show t you aren't going to hurt him or her then it will get better. The thing with amazons is you never know when the strike is comin'.

Re: ATB temperment
I'm pretty sure that's normal for babies. Heck even carpets and balls can be grumpy when young. I would tell your friend to start handling them now though, so they can maybe calm down a bit. I had an Amazon around four feet or so and he was hands down the grumpiest snake I've ever seen. Of course, his previous owners insisted that he had to be fed live mice and that you COULD NOT WATCH HIM EAT, you had to leave the room. So I really doubt he was raised properly.

I hear that they tend to be very nervous throughout their life. It doesn't mean that you can't eventually calm them down but most owners just figure it isn't worth the work. I hear that hook training goes a long way with them and that you should invest in a good pair of gloves first. Honestly I have been considering getting an ATB in the future whether I handle it much or not. Beautiful snakes especially the red and yellows.
