So I'm planning on getting a baby bal python next week at a herp expo

I also have a corn snake which on pinkies and I will get some fuzzies there as well.

So will my python eat fuzzies?
I see people saying fuzzies but are they mice or rat fuzzies? Should I buy a pack of rat and a pack of mice?

it depends on the size of the bp. a safe rule of thumb is the rodent should be a tad smaller around as the thickest part of the bp. so measure the width of the widest part of the bp and feed a rodent a little smaller around. and if you're buying bulk frozen don't over do it because babies grow pretty fast the first year (my girl went from a foot to about 3 her first year). hope this helps and all the best with the new baby. p.s. if you get a new baby you have to post pics, its the law

Re: So I'm planning on getting a baby bal python next week at a herp expo

I've copied this chart from a yahoo answers page, I measured the first three so I think it is right. I have edited the size values to be width rather than length. In general rat life cycles for pinkies, fuzzies and hoppers will fit between where marked, but rats grow faster than mice and will be larger at these stages and much larger as adults. This should give a guide of what you want.

    Mice Pinkies= 1-5 days - 0.5- 3 grams - 0.5- 1cm
    (rat pinkie)
    Mice Fuzzies= 6-13 days - 3- 6 grams - 1- 1.5cm
    (rat fuzzy)
    Mice Hoppers= 2-3 weeks - 7- 12 grams - 1.5- 2cm

    Weaned Mice= 3-4 weeks - 13- 18 grams - 2- 2.5cm
    (rat hopper)
    Large Mice= 4-6 weeks - 19- 25 grams - 2.5- 3cm

    x-Large Mice= 6 months+ - 30 grams+ - 3cm+

    So tomorrow's the day.

Never been to an expo, any recommendations on what to ask and stuff, and how are expos?? Like a market with herps?

Re: So I'm planning on getting a baby bal python next week at a herp expo

I started my '07 hatchlings on fuzzy mice. I generally feed rats, but I prefer fuzzy mice to pinkie rats which are a similar size. A furred prey item just seems more substantial to me. It might depend on what's easier for you to get in your area, what you go with. If your snake is an '07 and getting a bit big for one fuzzy mouse, two will do; ask the seller what/how many the snake eats. It could be ready to graduate to rat fuzzies at that time.
