My guess, it died and someone put it there. Or it was still alive and someone put it there. It did not get there by itself.

The guy said that he has kids. There you go Nothing against kids of this world. But I could easily see some of the kids' friends putting the snake (alive, or dead) in there as a prank. Easily. If it were a smaller snake, I'd think that it might have gotten in itself through the vents of the freezer.
Who leaves the top shelf of a fridge/freezer empty anyway? Makes me think that it might've been planted post-humously (or is that post-snakously?)
