Preserving a shed?
Might be a weird question I guess, but is there any way to preserve a snakes shed? My son wants to keep one of bp's shed but it's going to dry out and break apart. Any ideas?

Re: Preserving a shed?
I've just rolled out sheds and let them dry out. They usually don't become so brittle that they break apart the instant you touch them, although they are still fragile. I've let me son take several sheds into school that way, and when they're all banged up I just toss em and save the next one.
I wonder if you could use a spray varnish/sealant to make it a bit sturdier? I've never tried it, but it might be worth looking into.... maybe.

you can gently unroll it so it's intact and then puff your breath into it to make it shape outwards. Then lay it or hang it. It will last quite a while after it's dry.
As long as your parameters are good, you should have tons of sheds to replace the first one. I've given away tons of them(figuratively speaking, they weigh almost nothing of course... lol)

if its a mess, put it some warm water and stretch it out. then you can tack it on a wall and let dry. they are fragile, but you'd be surprised at what they can handle when wet.

Thanks for the replies! I'll give em a whirl, i'm having a mental cramp I didn't even think to just give him one and replace it once he destroys it (which he will definitely do lol).

I have one from each of my girls. I just keep 'em in ziplocks and they're fine.

You could always try laying it out flat between two sheets of that self stick saran wrap stuff. That should work to seal it and keep it whole a bit longer (make sure it's completely dry first of course).

word of advice--don't put it in a ziploc or anything airtight while it is still moist. when you open that bag--wooooo will it stink!
