Wild Caught Female?
So to day I was at my local herp shop and my buddy let me know that he knows a guy that's sellin a gravid wild caught female. He's askin $150 for her. She mean as hell... But do you think it'b be worth pickin her up to see what pops out or should I leave it alone?
Any input is appreciated!

Re: Wild Caught Female?
You want to pick her up as a dinker project? Don't bother. A "mean as hell" snake that is WC can very well come with internal and external parasites. I wouldn't risk it.
[edit]
Unless you are prepared for the subsequent vet bills, exams and quarantine period. Not to mention getting her to eat, and also, the small [small] chance she will breed for you.
(yes i know i have a wc, but she's a babe, and clean)
Oh yea, 150$? Outrageous. Forget it, walk away. Normals cost soooo less than that. Run away. LOL

Re: Wild Caught Female?
How comfortable are you with BP husbandry and care?
WC gravid females are NOT for the beginner.

Re: Wild Caught Female?
Also do you have a good herp vet that can check her over or do approprite fecal exams? Have you ever handled a WC adult, let alone one that has a tendency to strike first and ask questions later? Have you ever dealt with a clutch of eggs prior to the one she's currently carrying? Do you have a near perfect quarantine setup so any other snakes you own are safe from anything she might have? What is your experience with WC adults? Can you provide appropriate care for her after she's dropped this clutch (as far as getting her eating again and so forth)? What if the entire clutch is a bunch of normal males that realistically don't have all that much value to you from a purely financial return issue?

Re: Wild Caught Female?
If you have the experience, are confident about your skills and are willing to deal with a wild caught (and the parasites, aggressive behavior, not feeding, not to adjusting to captivity) than go for it.
Just remember it is a long-term commitment that needs to be taken seriously.

Re: Wild Caught Female?
It really depends on what your looking to get out of it, if your in it for the benift of the snake and have the experience dealing with wild caughts then go for it.Like jo said you have a decent chance of getting nothing but normal males do you have a means of selling them or are you planning on keeping them. Do you have a good herp vet? Do you have acess to asf's if the snake won't take rats or mice, more often then not we have found that with the wild caughts this will get them eating. Do you have an incubator set up and ready to go can you affored to get one or make one in the time before the eggs drop? What are you going to do with the female once she drops the eggs ? Do you mind getting bitten over and over again till she gets settled down. If you can deal with all the negatives then go for it.

That poor animal must be so terrified. I feel bad for her.
