    Talking First Vet Visit

    Hi everyone,

    Just had some quick questions.
I just had my first vet visit with our juvenile, normal female bp. I originally made the vet visit because, every so often, I heard a pop while she breathed. No bubbles, drool, stargazing or any other symptom
The vet did a full check on her and quizzed me about the husbandry. She said she sounded just fine and, honestly, I haven't heard a pop in a few handlings (if that's an actual word hehehe). She gave me the container to get some feces for parasite testing which I will get as soon as she goes next.
She eats without hesitation and defecates routinely.
Anyone else experienced something like this?

Also, she's 22" and 191g .. the place we got her from believes she was hatched in July. Is this a normal size? She looks fine but she's my first snake... so I'm really paranoid hehehe

Oh and of course... being the character she is... I had her in a pillowcase that I would put down the front of my hoodie to take her from the car to the vet and vice versa... cuz this is Ottawa and it's -20 here (-4 F for you guys south of the border )... well on the way back.. as soon as I sat into the car... the smell overwhelmed me... she had p*ssed all over me. Nasty hahahaha
Got home and wiped her down before putting her back in the cage.

    Re: First Vet Visit

July 07 and 191 grams sounds pretty much okay. They vary but that's certainly within "normal" weights for that age. Sounds like a good vet appointment.

Will you fall for "snake pee on you is a good luck thing"?

Just for the future in case you need to move the snake again or even just for something to pop her into while you clean her enclosure, I love these things.

    Smaller size....

    Larger size....

You can find these at most any dollar store or major department store. They range from a couple of dollars for a small one to about five or six bucks for the big one. Good lock down lid, a handle for carrying, just put in some vent holes and you have a handy dandy snake carrier or something to transport rodents/feeders around in. For cold weather vet visits it's very easy to add in a heat pack, wrapped in a towel, to keep your little scaley buddy nice and toasty warm for the trip (also avoids your lucky pee thing happening LOL or worse, an escape in the car ).

Thanks for your reply, Franky... She was a bit underfed at first I think... so she's catching up. She eats like a champ now... though "appropriate sized" frozen rats can be tough to find in Ottawa unless you buy in bulk. I just upped the frequency... she's eating rat pups now that are a little smaller than her widest part of her body. I have some weanlings but they seem a bit large for her just yet.

Hahaha .. I tried that "snake pee on you is a good luck thing" when it happened to my wife (though she got both pee and poop) .. hahaha She didn't much fall for it either.. especially the second time around.

I can't see the pictures attached to the post from work but I will definitely check them from home.

Thanks very much again... as usual.. your advice will definitely come in handy. hehehe

Oh no your wife got hit twice! Oh dear I shouldn't laugh I guess but..... You could try telling her it's a sign that the snake just loves her so much and is so totally relaxed it let go it's.....nah....nobody would fall for that one either LOL.

Rat pups sound about right for her at that age. I'll try and remember to weigh my own 5 07's tonight so you have a general comparison for yours. They all grow at different rates though so just feed properly and the size will come in time and with natural increments as it should.

Glad your enjoying the site and I'm glad to be of help.
