    Nat Geo - Dog Genius

Mark your calendar for Dec. 23rd at 8:00 pm. Canine Assistants (the organization I volunteer with) will be featured. Here's a video clip with some of our trainers and our dogs!

To remain an active volunteer, you have to volunteer a minimum of 2 hours a month, do three presentations/events a year, and one class a year (the staff trainers put on 2 hour classes each month).

I generally take a dog on a home visit at least once a month over a weekend. When we have training camp for the recipients, that's 2 weeks long, I'll take a dog home for the two weeks, and bring them to work with me to get work-place experience.

They do have cuteness overload, but the puppies are a LOT of work. I'm glad I don't work with them much - we don't allow them to ever feel a tight collar around their neck (so they don't learn to pull) and have to run around behind them so that the leash is always loose. And then bend over with treats for heel position - back breaking honestly.

That sling in the last bit of the video? You should see when we have a group of 10 volunteers on an outing, all with slings and puppies going out to eat! I've done that with six week old puppies.

Too cute, dog training is yet another hobby waiting to happen for me. I'm more than willing to put in the effort; no kids please, but I'll take two puppies

Aww I wish we got more than 6 channels on our TV. Sounds like a cool organization though.
