Hey all-

I ran into a small mom and pop shop the other day to look around. I noticed they had a young bp in a tank and looked at the sign. To my surprise it said "male-possible het pied". I didn't have time to ask about as I was running late for an appointment and really shouldn't have stopped in to do what I did, so I left. The little one is going for $60.00. Do you think it's worth the investment?

I am not very interested in pieds. :::gasp::: yeah I know...but to get a deal like that, it's tempting.

Lemme know what you think? Would you snatch it up?

I would check with them and see where it came from. If it just has markers and thats why they are saying its poss het. Then I dont know if I would get it. Now if they tell you that it came from X breeder. Then I would feel my chances of it being het or poss het are better. Than if it came from some wholesaler.

I'll ask 'em where they got it. I'll have to wait till Monday, since I am at work all weekend. Their past bps were all normals no posting of hets or the like, which lead me to believe they (the normals) came from Wholesale. I'd imagine this one is from a local breeder just because I don't think they'd sell a het pied thru whole sale then turn around and sell it for $60.00. I figure it's just a local breeder looking to get rid of his/her extras at a low price.

The more i looke at pieds, the more intersted I become. I might have to snatch 'em up. Or if anyone lives in the Willoughby, OH area and is intereted in it, be my guest.

Edit: I forgot to add, what type of markers are their for pieds?

Well I got the bright idea to call the petstore and the girl who answered said that it came from a local breeder and that girl who works (whose boyfreind bred it) there will be in tomorrow. So I'll give them a call tomorrow to see what's up with it.

If its a possible het male then the only way you could ever produce pieds would be buying a 100% het pied girl or a pied .Or take 10+ years to try to prove it out.Not worth it in my opinion but could be just a nice pet snake for someone

When it comes to het I can see myself buying a possible het female however I would not buy a possible het male unless it did not matter to me if he turned out to be normal.

Now if I have a specific plan, I spend the money and get a 100% het male rather than buy a possible het male. (Het pied go for $150)

Imagine you invest 3 to 4 years of your time (probably even more) and than discover that the possible het is in fact a normal male meaning that you are not any closer to your goal than you were 3 to 4 years ago.

Oooooooh. Well then. Boy am I glad I got you guys. I am patient, but not 10+ years patient to find out IF it might work. And I am sure 100% het pied girls or even pied girls are a pretty penny. Sadly I don't have any pretty pennies like that.

Thats why we are all here to help each other .Well i think 100% het pied girls are around $800 or a pair for under $1000.Then actual pieds go for $1800+

If it came from a local breeder id get it. Could be a cool dinker project something to keep on the back burner and see where it goes. Grow it up breed it keep any of the female babies. Grow them female babies up. Breed them back to the poss het dad. You might get lucky. If not it will give you experience in breeding. Also you can never have enough females so. Then the male babies you can dump off at the local pet shop. Yeah it will take a long time and might just turn out to be normal. From now till the time its big enough to breed you could also save some cash for a 100% het pied female. Breed them together and maybe get lucky.
