Learning about reptiles!
Something yesterday really made my day and will probably start a good relationship for me with another staff member. I am currently in my 3rd week at my new job doing technology support for a large school district and just recently started going out on my own now that I am getting familiar with the area. So anyway yesterday I was in the middle school working on a software issue in a special education classroom. I usually stay pretty focused on the task at hand but a few key words drew my attention to subject the teacher was going into...REPTILES!! They where learning about reptiles, snakes, constrictors, etc. They where reviewing and then had a quiz/test. I thought that was so cool, and I later emailed the teacher giving her a little about my background. She was very excited and said she would love it if I could come in and talk to her class and possibly bring in some of my animals. I gave her a link to my online gallery and I guess she was showing the students and they where very excited and had lots of questions.
I most definitely will show them some animals but because of the distance between home and work and the time of year I told her that I am leary about transporting the reptiles right now. Anyway it gets me a little excited when I can "work in" my love of reptiles into my "day job".
Go forth and educate!

That's so cool! Hopefully though a parent doesn't raise a stink about your snakes being "within ten yards" of their precious child. *knocks on wood*
Any education about herps is so cool!

Oh that's too cool Heath! We did a snakes at school show last year and are hoping to do one this year in the warmer spring months. It's always amazing to see the kids become so fascinated with snakes and even some of the adults lose a lot of their learned fear response.

I'm pretty excited about talking with them, I haven't brought any snakes into a classroom in several years. I want to bring some in so bad but again I can't risk the weather. The teacher said i could still come in and talk but it just wouldn't be the same!

Good for you! The school will still be there after the winter and meanwhile you will have time to get on the same page with the teacher.
