Lookie! Glow in the dark kitties! And they're so cute!
This is neat for reasons other than the possible medical benefits...

Yeah and you won't trip over them when you get up to go to the bath room in the middle of the night . I'm gonna go spray some glow in the dark spray paint on my kitty now lol. I just wonder what the life span is. Dolly didn't make it a year. Another thing I wonder how long the person receiving the medical benefits would survive if the animal doesn't live that long. Cloning just raises a lot of questions for me. Cool post though.

Well, they're not really glow-in-the-dark. They "glow" when exposed to UV light similar to what happens to a scorpion. The glowing process is passive instead of active like that of a firefly or jelly.

Hi,
Actually that's not accurate she lasted quite well (for a clone not a normal animal) and even had six offspring.
Born: 5 July 1996
Birthplace: Edinburgh, Scotland
Died: 14 February 2003 (euthanization)
Best Known As: The first cloned mammal
There do seem to be problems with degenerative illnesses being more common in some of the cloning projects though but I think it's being worked on and there is a nerwer technique that is apparently quite promising.
Here's a link to the page on her by the people who produced her.

True, not really glow in the dark... Actually they'd be black light kitties, which is still pretty cool. I think there are some species of snakes that fluoresce under black lights too. And thats naturally occurring.

I tell ya these cats are out of control! First we get the hairless kitties and now they glow. We need to put a stop to these mutant mischievous activities before it's too late and they become invisible. In fact they probably already are.
