My husband, Mark, works as a tattooist, and let's say, he gets many rather interesting people in the shop. So this guy walks in, and they start talking snakes. Guy offers Mark his 12' burn for $50..
Mark actually called me to ask if I wanted it! I said, no way. I am sticking to my relatively safe "little" BPs and one male BCI.
It just worries me that someone with little regard for their giant, would dump it off on someone who could have never even handled one before. But that's how it goes, I guess.. yipes.
I have all of the admiration in the world for those who keep these beautiful giants and cause them to thrive in their care.

I agree- don't take onm something that you are not ready for! Thoguh I would just LOVE to have a yellow anaconda- and would kill for a retic, rather it was a normal or morp- the retic will NEVER happen and the anaconda probably wont either.

I would say that you made a good choice-I still can't believe that someone would just pretty much give their snake away to someone that they dont even know if they could care for it or not. I've given away one snake to someone I know, and that was hard- I can only imagine how rediculous I'm going to be when selling baby's.. *shakes head* I'm probably going to be paranoid and end up keeping them all thinking that no one will care for them right. lol.

lol, I would rather get a retic over an anaconda! The wording you used made me think that retics were these massive animasl, when it's the anacondas you gotta get a team to lift! LOL

YELLOW anacondas are significantly smaller than retics, full grown.

Right, they are longer, but it's such a slender animal for it's extreme size. I would find it harder to deal with an anaconda, green or yellow, than a retic.

Plus, retics come in dwarf size too!

lol, ok ok. I concur. Retics are massive. I just have always viewed the anacondas as being these massive, huge fat animals taking down gazelle, crocs, capybara and crap, and the retic as a more lithe but extremely long character. My bad.

Still though, I think I would prefer a retic over an anaconda, because of the last POM, the that Celia took the picture of. Heck ya, I want me one of those!

Sorry about the mis-spelling, lol.
I actually thought about it for a little bit today. He said that it is 12'. I guess that since I only have limited experience with burms (only held one once) that it is a little out-there to consider getting it. I have had a lot of experience handling, feeding and caring for my friend's large female BCI who has to be a little more than 9'. I worked at her shop for a few years and was the main caretaker of that snake, and had fed and handled her numerous times. But I know that BCI and burms are two different things.. it would be a joint effort though, with my husband and I, and Mark is pretty experienced with burms actually, as a friend of his had a large one.
I guess that the cost would include its cage (not sure what that is, as I was not there.) Of course there are so many things to consider, such as the health of the snake, the possibility of parasites.. I understand that. And if it were an issue of needing feeders, that is simple; my friend breeds rabbits.
I am thinking now. Not by any means decided one way or the other.. but thinking.
