    Chlorhexidine in Canada

Here's a question for all you folks from Canada (I know we have some here for sure... )

Does anyone know where you can order Chlorhexidine Gluconate 2% in Canada?

    Something like this link:
    http://www.agri-med.com/site/255063/product/CHLRHX2SOL

I've only found it on US sites ... and it's at a reasonable price .. between $10-$15 .. but then the shipping comes in at $35. I ask around here in Ottawa and I get blank stares (maybe I'm not looking in the right places)

I found a product called Vap! in the pharmacy but it also contains Isopropyl Alcohol and I'd prefer to avoid that.

    Thanks in advance,

    Vlad

I am not from Canada, so I can't help you on that part, but there was a thread just going around about that stuff. What it is, which type is good, etc. In the event you can't get the stuff a 10% bleach solution will work. Just be sure to rinse, rinse, rinse.

Yeah, I am using that now. I have a 20gallon long tank ... and I am paranoid about the fumes.. so I usually take it into the bath tub and wash it out with hot hot water after the bleach treatment.

The only issue I have is that... as this is my first snake.. I bought one of those Exo Terra desert UTH.. and I stuck it on .. so I have to be extra careful not to get the water on the cord or pad.
It's a real pain the way I do it... but her clean environment trumps a little pain hehehe

I was just hoping the Chlorhexidine would make things easier for in between cleanings.

And yes I know... I tend to ramble on hehehe

LOL it's all good. At least next time you know not to stick the UTH to the bottom of the tank. You can always get aluminium tape and just tape it to it.

Hopefully someone can help you with your Chlorhexidine question.

I will try the aluminum tape for the UTH. Thanks Layna.

Connie, we do have a big one called Richie's Feed and Seed. They're supposed to be one of the biggest and best in town. I went there and the guy asked me where I have seen it and I told him on the Net.
He then gave me this long spiel about how they have different stuff in the US and it may not be legal here. He had no idea what I was talking about to begin with.... so I just gave up on him.

I will keep looking around for other feed stores though.

It was one heck of a day to buy it too. I was just going for some hardware cloth, and I came out with Chlor, air fresheners, rat treats, rat bedding, and some candy for the man.

Many farm supply stores will carry it or something similar. I usually go to Mills Fleet Farm.

Here is another place on-line to order from

Bleach is OK to use. The key is not only in rinsing, but allowing the cleaned surfaces to dry completely. As far as I know, all bleach evaporates into the air (like water) and doesn't leave residue on things that are wiped down, then air dried completely. Just don't use the bleach too close to the snakes - I imagine they hate the smell and it's not too healthy to breathe in.
