The whole point was that we didn't want people to "depend" on chat to be their place to ask all their questions, simply because they felt they'd get quicker answers.

There's no problem to talk about a pick-up you did at the show, or about your animals locking or exciting things going on. Heck, we were even discussing the Reptile Radio show while it was on live. No problem to ask how someone's snakes are doing, or congratulate them on a pickup you may have read about, or congratulate Larry on his LA's.

But to pop into to chat only to ask all your husbandry or set-up questions and not use the forums because someone may be an "I've got to have an answer NOW!" personality, no - chat is not appropriate for that.

There have already been some members who were consistently asking basic husbandry questions every time they had a question that was better asked on the forums (and not participating in chat for any other reason but to ask basic care questions). They received PM's asking them to please post on forums, after they were asked repeatedly in chat to, and ignored us. They were not yelled at.

Joanna and Raj also presented excellent reasons why chat "lite" is set up like it is.
