dropped tail

My crested gecko just dropped his tail.........he's real jumpy and has always been jumpy, i thought these guys were supposed to calm down? anyway, he jumped right out of my hands and i went to grab him, and he dropped it.........it flipped around for like two minutes! Freaked me out! Is there anything that i should do now? he seems fine, but wow this is some freaky stuff!

Ummm, not to be sick- but do you have a picture? Ive just never seen that before (a lizard with a freshly dropped tail), and Im curious... would think hed be fine though, it'll grow back... but good luck with the little spazz!! lol

He should be okay, just keep an eye on it, make sure it stays fairly clean until it heals over.

The twitching thing is a defense mechanism. The predator's attention is diverted by the moving tail so the gecko can get away.

And they usually do calm down... but they all have different personalities!

Like said before, just make sure his house is clean. Papertowels, kept moist. You may want to dab a little neosporin with out pain reliever on there to help it heal. He should be just fine though.

their tails break off quite cleanly, which enable quick and easy healing. keep the him and the enclosure clean for the next few weeks and you shouldn't have any problems.

btw jessika, cresteds actually do no grow their tails back.
