Do people really fall for this?
Ok...so I have decided I really want to get rid of my 120Gal saltwater tank before the holiday...so I posted a Craigslist ad basically listing what I had saying the the first $600 takes it (it is worth well over $2000...so a good deal). So over the past day I have received several people asking questions and such. One guy asked it if was still available and I said yes and then I get this email from him.
Hello,
Thanks for the prompt response and i will love to make an instant purchase, so please do withdraw the advert from Craigslist, i dont mind adding an extra $20 for you to take the advert down from criagslist so that i can be rest assured that am in hand of the item.
I will also like you to know that i will be paying with a cashier's check, and it will be over night payment due to the distance .You dont need to bother your self with the shippment ok, i will take care of that, so i will need you to provide me with the following information to facilitate the mailing of the check.
1.Your full name.
2.Your mailing address be it residential or postal address.
3.Your phone number.
I assure once again i will take care of shipping.
Have a nice day.
Regards,
Leonard XXXX.
First, what got my attention is the comment about shipping - this is a 120gal SW set up, stand and hood (pry close to 1500 lbs). Then there was the grammar (don't get me wrong I am not perfect buy clearly this writer isn't American). Then wanting all the personal info.
I simply told him no way on the check and that if he wanted it payment would have to be sent via Paypal...knowing full well I will never hear back again.
Just wondering how many people fall for these types of fishing for personal info requests...strange scary world we live in.

That is a real gem, huh? It's a pretty old scam. I got an email like that when I was listing a painting on ebay; similar idea.
I wouldn't fault CL itself, bonheki. If it were so, then you could fault ebay.. fault the whole idea of selling online in itself! There will always be bad apples out there no matter how you try to sell something online.
