    Rescue

I picked up a rescue Wednesday night from a guy who had posted on another forum. Robin had PMed me the link, so I contacted the person and gave him my number so he could call me. He called me that afternoon and we agreed to meet up so I could get the snake. He told me she's around 9 months old.

The Ball looks pretty decent weight-wise(maybe 750-800g), but the last 1/2 of her belly and her tail looks like a bad burn. About 8 inches of belly scales are filled with clear fluid. Her tail is just raw looking. I have her on soft paper towels with a very small water bowl. I washed her with some antibacterial soap just to get the urine/feces smell off of her, and then lathered her up with antibiotic ointment. I have silvadene, but am in the process of moving, so it's somewhere in my parent's house. Her attitude is good, eyes are clear, no external parasites, mouth is clean, pink and free of any excess mucus. I'll be getting a fecal the next time she gives me a sample to work with.

I'll be getting some mice in this weekend, so we'll see what she thinks about a feed when I get home Saturday. I'll get some pictures of her too, she's a cutie.

    Re: Rescue

I hope so, she's such an easy-going snake. I started to debride her belly last night so the ointment could work. I think the fluid was just from irritation/inflammation because it didn't have a smell to it, so no infection. The skin on her tail is coming off, leaving it raw looking, but there is healthy tissue underneath, so she should be fine. I'm glad she's so tolerant :-D

I find alot of rescues on Craigslist, but this time, the snake was here in Waco and the owner had posted on RepticZone.

    Re: Rescue

Glad the snake found a good home Becky. If Robin hadn't PMed you I would have when I saw the person posting for a rehome for this snake. Hope everything goes well with the snake and your upcoming move (I'm so excited for you about the new apartment!)

Make sure to get good pics of the mess it is now and how well it ends up healing. I think it's always nice to look back and see the amazing healing these snakes can do when given some good supportive health care and a decent living arrangement.

    Congrats again!

    Re: Rescue

I just filled up the sink with some lukewarm water, put about 2-3 drops of dawn antibacterial soap in so it's slightly sudsy, and rinsed the snake off afterwards. I have chlorhexidine scrub at home, but it's not where the snakes are. I'll likely use it next time.

I think before and after pictures are a great idea Jo She's a good girl and will just lay on her back in my arms(with her head on my shoulder) while I fuss with her belly. I doubt I'll have any problems getting pictures.

Wow Becky, that's great that you we're able to take her in like that. Where do you get chlorhexedine scrub?

    Re: Rescue

I get the scrub from the vet, it's great stuff. You can use that or betadine scrub, both work well.
