Ugh... Glanced at the thread... so is it truth that there is an "Air born Virus"... or can a virus only be passed through contact/shared water etc... !?!?!?

Jas, you really should get your facts straight before you open your mouth (or should I say, punch the keys). My exact words were "I have never dealt with an RI before". That statement is true -- I had one WC female come in already blowing green goo straight out of the box. She died within a couple days, before I had the chance to treat her or do anything with her at all. After conferrring with Dr. Alan Slack, he stated that she was too far gone before she even arrived in order to be saved. The presence of neon green mucous and large amount of it indicated a strong bacterial RI. Hence, I have never dealt with an RI -- I didn't deal with her. That was also 9 MONTHS AGO -- my vet laughed when I mentioned people suggesting that the bug from that female lived in my carpet for 7 months then magically infected my collection all at the same time out of nowhere. That was the one and only RI ever -- not sure where you're getting "one every year" from or that I've had 2, 3, 4...you must be buddies with TWI, you guys both make things up and pull things out of you-know-where.

As my vet explained, an immunocompromised animal would. Dizzy died after 10 days, Lola died somewhere around 2-4 days after she must have developed symptoms, and I just lost the only baby I held back from my breedings this year. She showed NO SYMPTOMS at all, not even the very night before, then just 24 hours later in full blown respiratory and kidney failure. Yet the het clown held on for 2 months with full-blown symptoms. Why the difference between these animals? It is affecting each snake differently -- some have stronger immunity and ability to fight it than others. This seems like common sense here...

All I can say is the whole situation really sucks! Thanks Deb for sharing this. Many think quarrantine is paranoia/overrated and say "I have never had a problem". Hopefully we can learn from someone elses unfortunate experience and realize quarrantine can mean life or death.

Jen i am very sorry for your losses and problems. Instead of everyone trying to pass blame we should try to learn how to better care for our animals. We will probably never know who was at fault but we definately know what is at stake.
