    need help choosing

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would like to get a lizard for christmas but I cannot decide which one. First off the lizard would be house in a 10 gallon aquarium (My BP dankman's soon to be old cage) and pretty much dont want to have to buy a bigger cage. The three species that I am looking at right now are a jacksons chameleon, bearded dragon, or a UROMASTYX. Im pretty sure a UROMASTYX is out of the question because of there size but how about a chameleon or a bearded dragon. Is a ten gallon a suitable size? Please leave some input and maby even some different specieces options.

Well, I'd have to say either one won't be content in a 10 gallon tank. Any chameleon should be housed in an enclosure that is well ventilated and has good air circulation and much larger than a 10 gallon. As far as the beardie, a 10 gallon will work for maybe 2-3 months if you get a hatchling. After that, they definitely need a larger size. I hatched a beardie about a month ago. When he was born he was maybe 2 inches long, he's already around 5". I hope this helps. I'm not really sure of what species will be happily housed in that sized tank besides a lizard that stays very tiny.

I had a leopard gecko when I was really young and i just think there boring. Even though chameleons seem pretty boring I like the fact of having something so cool to look at

    Re: need help choosing

An adult beardie needs a VERY large tank. (Relative to a 10gal) Mine is in a 55gal and it barely seems adequate to me.

You might be able to go with a single crestie...and turn the tank up on its end so it is taller than it is wide. But really...it'd be really hard for any of us to predict what you'd think was cool.....and going strictly on the stereo-typical "cool factor" I can't think of anything that would be suitable for a 10gal tank.

Green or Brown anoles, Gold dust day geckos or other smaller geckos, Smaller skinks ie five lined skinks. There aren't many choices if you don't want to move up in tank size.

get some helmeted geckos, they are awesome! you could keep a small colony in a 10 gal and make a neat little desert viv for them.
