Whatever heat source you decide to use you MUST wire it to a thermostat to control the temp. This will help keep your house from burning down. Cutting a space for the pad would be ideal as then the tubs wouldn't rub on it directly...but you can also just cover the pad/flexwatt which will serve the same purpose.
