sticky toes..not so sticky

ok, the cresties here are unable to actually climb the plastic walls. They do climb the plants no problem. should they be able to climb the walls of the enclosure? What can I do to help them with that? I spray every day, we use papertowels for substrate and i just stuck some moist moss back in there to help with humidity. Otherwise aside from the faux plants and paper towels there is nothing else in the enclosure except their food dish...

Also, im planning on getting a large enclosure for them to live in pretty soon, how long can the cresteds live in the medium critter keepers? Hallo is 3-4mos and Trick and Traid are one month, the babies share one and hallo has his own. I would like to wait until everyone is big enough to move in.. and to know sexes as well.

do you know what the actual humidity is in the enclosures? have they ever been able to climb the walls or is this a recent thing?

a single gecko can live in a medium kritter keeper until about 6 months of age.

ill have to move the gauge from the frogs to the cresteds and see what it says.. .i have never really noticed them climb the walls.. it wasnt until i started the other thread that it was brought to my attention. they have always been great climbers on the plants.

have you started using heat in your house at all? that always reduces the humidity considerably in my herp room even though i live in a very humid area and some of the geckos are less sticky and/or need humid hides to help with shedding since my adult enclosures are partially screen. some of the geckos are totally fine with the change but there are always a few that it seems to affect quite a bit so i have to make sure to provide more humidity for those.

my enclosures are plastic as well and my geckos also have no problems sticking to anything else. could it be that when you mist the enclosure the spray gets on the walls? i know that when the walls of the enclosure are wet, my geckos slip down.

Hmmm.. even when its bone dry (when i get home before misting) they dont stick

They may be going into shed too. Post It always has trouble climbing glass just before a shed.

I don't know how true this it, but someone said that their geckos have a lot of trouble climbing things like sterilite tubs, plastics and acrylic. No problems with glass though. Could have been some other problems going on there too though.

I know am having some major humidity problems right now. Its so dry here. I got up this morning and the humidity in my 29 gallon was 35% and I misted it heavily last night. They do have a humid hide though. So I ordered a bunch of cocofiber, and moss today. Papertowels just aren't holding any moisture.

Kristy, i agree with the papertowels nto holding moisture. i added the moss last night as well as the gauge so tonight when i get home i can check. they are being housed in a plastic critter keeper so that could be part of the issue. i dont recall seeing them climb the glass when hallo was by himself in the 10gal. we moved him into the critter keeper awhile ago though.. it very well could be shed, could they just be lazy and want to either climb plants or nothing at all? or is that unlikely. is it bad if they dont?

I think mine actually prefer to climb around on the plants vs. the glass. I think they feel more secure. Mine are also all adults, if I remember right yours are all pretty teeny still?

They just may feel a lot more secure in the plants. I don't think its bad, climbing on horizontally placed plants will help prevent floppy tail too.

I would think as long as they can climb the plants, are eating and are healthy you shouldn't have much to worry about.

Its hard to catch them shedding, I have had Post it since she was 5 weeks old, she is a year old now, I have only seen her shed twice, the male once, and my other females once each. I stay up really late too, so I am suprised I haven't seen it more often.

i too am up late.. i have cought hallo shedding once. Trick and Triad, yes are only a month old.. Hallo is about 3mos give or take because i dont know her* hatch date.. so yes, they are very young yet. I did catch Hallo eating this morning on her own which is huge, i have been hand feeding them all since they came to me..Good little climbers they are
