problematic female
I recently decided to start up a small breeding project so I bought 3 small adult female mice and 1 male from a different store (to avoid inbreeding). I've been keeping the females separate from the male to mature before I introduced them. Well yesterday i finally put them all together and they seemed to get along except for one of the females. I noticed that whenever my male tried to get close to her she would start biting him. I have her by herself now and the other two females aren't giving me any trouble at all. So my question is - should I just feed her off? or is there a chance that she's just giving the "new guy" a hard time and will eventually settle down? 1.2 breeders wouldn't be a problem considering I only have 6 snakes to feed but I'd like to know for future reference so I don't end up with any dead breeders. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Re: problematic female
Female mice are known to be particular when a new male is introduced. This is generally a territorial issue, so introducing both to a new territory at the same time will reduce the liklihood of that happening.
Alternatively, since you've got her seperated, clean both tanks, wait a few days, clean the one with the 1.2 again, and put her in with them. If you still have aggression issues then maybe she might just be a mean one...

Re: problematic female
Put them alone together and supervise them for a while. Sometimes rats just need to show their pecking order and it takes a little bit of posturing before they know who's the alpha. However, if you get two alphas you might end up with an injured or dead rat which is why it's a good idea to supervise them until they settle down.
Typically that won't happen if the male is much larger than the female, but if they're about the same size the female might not want to be bullied around.
Good luck!

Mice, not rats. Mice are much worse in that regard from what I've heard...

Re: problematic female
Thanks for all the info guys. I think I'll leave it at 1.2 for now just to keep things simple. Looks like the picky female gene won't be being passed on this time lol

Re: problematic female
Is she bred already? this could make her fight off his advances.

Re: problematic female
Nope, I got her a little over 3 weeks ago and she wasn't with any males during that time.

Re: problematic female
Maybe she just had a headache? Wasn't in the mood? Did he take her out for a movie and dinner at least?
