Re: Great idea gone down the DRAIN!
I've seen like revolving credit type loans for those small amounts, and for younger people to help build credit and things, but that doesn't mean that is whats going one either. If I was the guy selling, it isn't sold to anyone until I have at least an agreed upon deposit in hand. Just my 2 cents.

LOL, maybe I wasnt clear. . .
I didnt take out a loan for $100. . .the loan was for quite a bit more because I'm opening a reptile store here in my town. . .the loan was for enough to open the store and get the herps and other reptiles but I was going to invest some of it to get the snakes.

And hopefully you're right and he will work with me. I already have 13 bearded dragons and 1 columbian red tail boa, so I know pretty much how to keep my reptiles and stuff. . .I just needed to rant for a min.
Thanks for all the responses Sorry I was unclear about the loan, lol.

Re: Great idea gone down the DRAIN!
Well, that makes a lot more since. I think I would try to scrounge up at least a deposit and get something set in stone if its something you truly believe in.
And good luck on your store, I'd love to do what I love for a living. Hope it works out for you.

I agree with you. he just states that he was getting the loan. he never mentioned the total cost. but anyways, i agree though. if the loan was for only 140, then dont get the snakes. lets see what he says

Snakes have blood, feal fear, breathe air, eat food, drink water, reproduce, and they happen to live in a body which is difficult for the average person to understand. One fears what one doesn't understand. ignorance creates fear. The fear of snakes is not cultivated…we are not born with it…children love snakes, just as naturally as they love dogs and cats. don’t be afraid of a reptile’s tongue…the only animal that can hurt you with its tongue is the human being.

Re: Great idea gone down the DRAIN!
Hi,
Do you know the sexes for definite on the 4 normals? Because yeah that does sound a good deal for 4 females but for four males not so much unless you only want them as pets.
I wouldn't read anything into the yellow belly mother unless you can see the offspring are actually yellow bellies - it's the same idea as "pastel sibling" really. In an ideal world it would mean they took extra care to find the best looking mate to produce good looking offspring but sadly all to often it means as much as "my aunt had a canary once till the milkman left the window open" during a discussion of quantum mechanics.
It might be worth asking him for belly pics or something unless you don't mind getting 4 male normals.
I know you said two of them were really light and appealed to you so it really comes down to what your plans for the animals are.

Re: Great idea gone down the DRAIN!
so 140 for the 4 snakes total? What are the ages and sex? Who is the guy your buying from, is his story legit? Did he raise/breed them himself? 140$ for 4 young (<year old) females sounds normal. And also, I dont want to hassle you at all, but is a few grand going to cover everything? You may be able to buy property for that small amount, but can you pay for the bills out of that???
Maybe it's the market I'm around. This isn't a huge economy in MI, but the land alone would cost well into 100,000's, most likely more. And the cost for license, taxes, utilities, merchandise, and animals, along with necessary health costs. I would persoanlly shoot for 200,000's if I could. But I guess I dont know that much about the biz. :/

Re: Great idea gone down the DRAIN!
When I opened my grooming business, I didn't BUY land. Very few places buy the land and building. Most businesses rent the space, and set it up. I'm not sure how far $2K would go to opening up a pet store though. There's displays, there's overhead, there's product to buy... it will add up very face.
