    HerpStat II Owners...?

    Hi all,

I’m seriously considering getting a HerpStat II. I’d like to have one heating pad on the hot side, and one on the cool, set at different temps. I’ve been in contact with Dion from Spyder Robotics (excellent customer service!!!) and he advised that the HerpStat II would be great for what I want. (I'm currently using a ZooMed ReptiTemp 500R, but it was bought with the intention of being a stand-in for a HerpStat - which are not at all readily available in Canada!)

However, I noticed on the owner’s manual that this unit has a built-in cooling fan. That’s fine and all, but I wanted to ask owners; have you ever had a problem with the build-in fans going on the fritz, dying, or anything along those lines? Has anyone here owned one of these units (or a comparable HerpStat unit) for a long time with no problems?

Since my old computer’s power supply had a fan die and nearly fry the machine, I am leery about such devices.

    Thanks for your input!

I have had a Herptstat II for quite a while now. I've never had a problem with the fan, but I did have a glitch in the unit in which one of the sides would turn on high periodically for no apparent reason. I contacted Dion and he repaired the unit with a very fast turnaround time.

I have the Herpstat Pro, and have had no issues so far (only ~ 6 months use). I honestly wouldn't worry about it. They have great customer service so if you did fry your unit because it was defective they'd take care of you. Go for it; one of the best investments for your collection.
