Shed issues
I've got two 4 month old BP's, and one is having what I perceive a difficult shed. Sophie, who is kept in the exact same conditions, will seemingly shed overnight. Her eyes will get "blue", and then there will be a ball of shed in there for my kids to play with.
Howl has shed with no problem a couple times while I have had him, but has been trying to shed for 4 days now. The back half is off, and some of the head, but the rest is "sticking". I've sprayed him down a bit, and it did no good. Is this normal? What can I do to help him out, if necessary? Also, is there a reason she would shed better than him? They are brother and sister.
Thanks!

Also, what is your humidity? you can try bumping your humidity up and that will definitely help.

Re: Shed issues
Thanks guys! I did bump up the humidity (spraying twice daily), but nothing. I'll read that and ask any questions I have left...if any.
Thanks!

Re: Shed issues
Hi all! I'm new here to the forum; found it looking for help on bad shed issues. I've found a ton of helpful stuff that helped me take care of most of it, but I still have a question: is there any specific ideas for dealing with what's left on just his head? His humidity's good and I've done the soaking thing a few times (first time took care of all but his head and neck). I think he still can't see so he's pretty defensive, although he hasn't tried to strike at all. I have a damp washcloth in with him, and he has plenty to rub up against, but nothing seems so be helping. When I try to help rub the shed skin that's left with a damp washcloth, it seems to hurt him. I'm wondering how long I should keep trying until I'm concerned. Thanks for any help! =)

Re: Shed issues
Hi,
You could try putting him in a damp, inside out, pillowcase in his tank (in the middle between the hot and cold ends) and tying the end so he can't get out. Be carefull he doesn't get caught when your tying it.
The idea is his pushing against the inside of the pillowcase loosens it around his nose and head.
Use warm not hot water to soak the pillowcase and make sure air can get out when it's damp by inflating it then squeezing. If you cant force air our use a cheaper (lower threadcount) pillowcase.
How long ago did he actually start shedding? and when you say the humidity is good what is it and how dfo you measure it? I ask because some of the thigns available in petshops aren't all that accurate.

Re: Shed issues
I have a good indoor/outdoor one, not one of the stickons. The humidity level is around 60% right now, although it was too dry when he sarted shedding (I was gone and the humidifier was off for a while). It was over two weeks ago now that he started, and the head part is still on. I'm trying the pillowcase thing now. Thanks for the tip; we'll see how it goes. =)
