Need advice with my Ball Python, possible skin problem
My Ball Python, Jack, shed about 2 weeks ago, but a few days ago I noticed a few scales on top of his head looked patchy and dry. Now they have begun to slightly flake off. He shed completely, so its not a leftover and he's been eating and acting normally. I've only had him for about 3 months now, so Im not sure if this is normal or a possible skin condition. Any help would be appreciated.

pictures would help to figure out what is going on. are you sure it's not stuck shed?

Sounds like stuck shed. Other idea is dehydration - or too dry in the tank? What are the temps and humidity?

Re: Need advice with my Ball Python, possible skin problem
Have you noticed him burrowing at all? My bp used to burrow from time to time and once in a while I would catch him burrowing under his hide. He'd lift up this heavy hide with his face and afterwards I notice some dry/flakey looking scales on his head. I put a decent amount of crumpled up newspaper in his tank and he doesn't seem to burrow at all anymore. I think it was a security issue. Hope this helps

Re: Need advice with my Ball Python, possible skin problem
I've noticed sometimes a few of my BP's will have what looks to be a couple shruken dry scales on the top of their head. At first I worried it was a fungal infection, but it never spread, and went away with the next shed. I don't worry about it now as they get it from time to time, usually right after a shed. Nothing detremental has happened with leaving them be for my snakes. Just up the humidity a little more before the next shed, perhaps you wont see them next time.

It doesn't sound too much like dehydration...with that they become WAY less active..less tongue flicking..their bodies look a lil wrinkled.

It may be a humidity problem.
Describe your set up please...pictures would be a huge help.

Thanks for the advice, it hasnt spread or gotten any worse. It might be a scratch or a bump. He's still acting normally, so I'll just wait until the next shed. My setup includes a climbing branch, a hollow rock and a bedding of wood bark chips. I live in Florida, so the humidity is usually pretty high.

I looked at the your thread and mine looks almost exactly the same. It doesn't seem to be a problem, so unless it gets any worse, I wont worry too much.
