The fact is, you can set any price on any of your snakes you like. Even if it's a "normal", you can put $5000.oo on it, and if someone walks up and wants to buy it, that's all good.
When it's a previously unknown morph with unknown potential, you bet that the owner will charge through the nose, and get it. I'm all for charging whatever you like on your snakes. If someone is willing to pay it, then go for it. If no one is willing to pay $5K for a normal, then you'll either lower the price, or keep the snake.
I think price should be set by the owner with regards to what that particular animal is worth to the currant owner. Some of us want more pastel females for breeding projects. That means we value a pastel female a lot more than someone that has no pastel projects. So I might pay more for a pastel female than someone else, but as long as enough people like me exist, the pastel female price will stay high. If there are not many people like me, the pastel female price will drop.
