Thumbs up Morty the KSB seems to be opening up!

Morty, our new KSB that we got in Chantilly, seems to have turned a corner in terms of his comfort level with us! He was more curious when we took him out last night, and chose to climb up and explore my husband instead of burrowing down under clothes, hands, etc.

Also, when I put him back in the tank, he stayed on top of the aspen shavings, basking, for a minute or two instead of diving straight down as he did in the past.

Now, to get him to eat....

Try live pinky or fuzzy rats. Leave them alone, in the dark, do it at night. It worked for me at co-op
    Also.. Be very quiet...

I'm trying to get live pink mice. Only one local pet store will sell them; and they don't have any right now. But I guess I could expand my search to include drives up to 30-45 minutes.

We tried F/T pinks with Morty in a tupperware (with breathing holes) in his tank overnight.

Morty is only 10" and 10 grams. So he's tiny!

That's the next step, I guess. I really just want him to eat once or twice - then whenever I can switch him to F/T would be great - or, I should say, IF.

Re: Morty the KSB seems to be opening up!

Update! Yesterday, I saw him on the edge of his water bowl, lounging and having a drink. It was the first time I'd seen him out and about of his own accord (other than right after I put him back in).

Today, we drove 45 minutes each way to a pet store that just got some live pinkie mice in. We got home, put the pink, a folded paper towel (for hiding, if necessary), and Morty in a tupperware with holes - and put it in his tank. Morty was latched on and eating within 15 minutes! Yee-haw!

We've turned a corner and are very happy.

Also, I think I heard him murmur (hard to understand with a mouthful), "About friggin' time!"
