Re: New to BP's and I have some questions...

    Hi,

Well if the room is heated to 80f and the surface of the uth is 80F are you sure it's actually working? - does it get hotter if you plug it directly into a socket with no regulation? ( don't do this with it attatched to the tank if that's a possibility - and if it isn't I'd probably move the snake out for the hour or so it would take to see a difference).

Although if the snake has just eaten then wait a couple of days so as not to disturb his digestion.

Re: New to BP's and I have some questions...

I should have clarified. The room is not yet heated for them but it soon will be. I'll be moving soon and will have a room dedicated to just the herps. They'll have their own oil-filled radiator heater and humidifier to help aid ambient temperatures in their enclosures. Sorry, I was in a rush when I posted that. Room temperature right now is 72 to 75F, humidity around 45%. The UTH above a thin layer of substrate hovers from 80 to 82F. Appropriate cool side temperatures if I'm not mistaken. Ambient temperature in the tank hovers from 80 to 83F. Warm side, which is where the light is, hovers from 92 to 96F. I did have the light above the UTH but moved it earlier this evening after discovering that the former cool side was staying far too cool. I have half of the screen lid covered with a towel to aid in keeping heat and humidity in. The water bowl is closest to the warm side, the light shines into part of it. I have been cleaning and filling the bowl everyday anyhow and thought that it may help humidity.
I rather dislike the red light, so I'll be getting another UTH (Desert one maybe? I still don't know if the one I have is working as intended.) for the warm side. That won't be happening though until after my husband and I are all moved.
