    Feeding question.

My BP ate his last meal on Wednesday night, was a large pinky/small fuzzy rat, a little bit smaller then his girth however my BP is a little small. He ate it almost immediately and it seemed to have no lump after only 12 hours or so. I don't have a weight yet (no scale) and no measurements yet however he is 4-5 months and he is only about 7/8" wide at the widest part. His temps and humidity are good now and he is settled in, I've only had him for a week and I believe he ate 6 days before I fed him. Now I'm wondering if it would actually be beneficial to feed every 4 days for a few weeks to put a bit of weight on. I would be going back to 5 days after about a month or so. Would feeding every 4 days be considered power feeding and do you see any ill effects of a 4 day schedule for a few weeks?

    Thanks, Perry.

He'll gain weight on once a week fine. as long as the meal is the same size of the girth of your snake. you don't want to over feed him

    Re: Feeding question.

We generally feed ours every 5 days until they hit about 150 to 200 grams, then they drop back to every 7 days for the rest of their lives.

The digestive process in itself is very energy intensive for snakes. Their heart size increases, they direct higher blood flows to organs involved in digestion, their stomach acids kick into high gear and so forth. Allowing them proper time to gear back down between digestive cycles is a good thing for them so every 4 days is likely a bit too quick a turn around time.
