    Teen speak

    I'm only 26 and some of the words today totally throw me. Sick for instance as I've seen it in use on a few threads here. When did sick = cool? I'm just as lost as when phat = cool... The life of a country girl, so out of the loop.

    Re: Teen speak

    I am 17 and yes I do hear a lot of people use words like such, but I never have. They sound wrong to me. (Not saying they ARE wrong)

    I do say "sweet" but that word makes sense to me.

    Other "new" (They may not be new but I have been hearing them a lot lately)words I hear are : Hardcore, uber, crack, dunzo (Those are the only ones I can think of as of right now but I know I missed many)

    A few more generations and I think the english vocabulary is gonna be a lot different then it used too be!
    Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.

    Why is it called 'after dark' when it really is 'after light'?

    Of course, look at how people used to talk in the 1600's. If you read anything from that period, you have to reread it a few times to even get a grasp of what they are talking about. Shakespeare for example.

    There are a lot of Ebonics down here. The ones you listed aren't even used anymore . A lot of the words are just super shortened forms, kinda of a verbal short hand.

    Cuh = Cuz = Cousin which is kind of used like the word Bro. Endearing term.

    Tight = cool

    There are millions more that make no sense.

    The best was when Dave Chapelle did that interview with an old white guy and just started making up words and phrases that sounded like it could be slang, but had absolutely no meaning.
