I had a form of a staph infection that was very similar to what you are discribing. It was basically pimple like things on my arms and upper back. It looked a lot like acne. I can't remember exactly what the doctor called it. If I remember correctly it was follicitis because the infection was in the hair follicles. I treated it with an antibiotic gel that I put on once a day and I seem to occasionly still get the bumps but they have never been as bad as they once were. I don't know where I got the infection from and my girlfriend of three years never contracted it so if it is the same thing I would think that you would be safe.
