    Basement flooded... very upset

So, our basement flooded a few nights ago, no big deal. Barely got the floor wet. It was nuisance, but we put a new pipe in and all was fine again...

    Or, so we thought.

I'm currently residing in the basement of my parents' house. ALL of my stuff is down there, including all of my snakes. Today, I head down the stairs thinking to take a nap for a couple hours... and find a half inch of water. The entire basement has flooded. Many of my clothes are soaked---the whites are ruined. Many of my books are ruined. My cat is trapped on top of my bed. Luckily, all of my snakes were elevated, for the most part. But now I'm worried about an electric short, and losing their heating.

Ugh... I seriously sat down on the stairs and cried. Everything I own is down there. Everything I own is soaked. Much of it is ruined. My furniture wasn't even spared.

So, yeah, guess I just needed to write it down... pretty upset about it still. But, gotta get to work.... thanks for listening.

Awww Lynn, how awful. You've got our phone number honey. If there's anything Mike and I can do, or you just need a shoulder or someone to listen, you pick up that phone okay.

I am very sorry to hear about the flood.

Good thing is that no one got hurt, and that everything can be replaced.

I wish you the best of luck.

    Re: Basement flooded... very upset

Thank you for the support, ya'll. We just spent the last few hours sweeping up the water with dad's shop-vac. Fun stuff. I've checked on Kinkers and Gwyd, and they both seem to be doing all right. The humidity obviously took a spike... going to have to keep an eye on that.

I think we figured out what happened. When dad was working on the pipes last week---for the little flood---somehow another section of pipe became stressed. Today, I went out into the shed to fill a couple of buckets of water for the dog---he has a trough we just keep filled. That's the first time the water in that section has been turned on since we worked on it last week, and we think the vibration caused the stressed pipe to fracture. All it took was a little water pressure and... Whooooosh!

Anyway, it's a fairly easy fix in the pipe department. Just a little more work in the clean-up.

But wanted to say: I appreciate you guys so much!!! Sean, it's awesome to know I have someone close I can count on to watch the kids if needs be... and it's so great to know that I have people to talk to!

I'll keep everyone updated. Thank you again.

Aw crap.. I am glad to read that it was something that was easily fixed. Reminds me of the time our toilet flooded the kitchen/bathroom (septic tank backed up..) That was bad.. just think, it could always be worse!

    Re: Basement flooded... very upset

Holy crap! This has been one of the worst weekends in a long time!

I had to put my cat out in the garage last night because she refused to go down in the basement with all the water. Well, this morning, without thinking, my mother goes out, gets in the car, and goes off to run some errands.

When I go out there after her, I can't find Katie anywhere. She's gone. I've looked throughout the entire house. Practically turned it inside and out. We put the car up on blocks and looked under just to make sure she wasn't hiding up inside it. Nothing.

I'm beside myself sobbing again. I love that cat... she's seriously been with me through some of the worst times in my life. I mean, I know she's just a cat, but she's also one of my best friends. She's only three years old, with lots of years ahead of her... I don't know what to do.

We've driven up and down the route that mom drove, hoping to find her, hoping she fell out of the car and is just hiding next to the street. She's never been outside before and I'm sure she's terrified. Or hurt.

Seriously, what did I do to deserve this????
