Arrow i think Montys a girl!

Hi everyone, since my last post about future breeding i went on a mission to find out the sex of Monty.
a friend has corn snakes and showed me how to pop them, its simple and harmless if done gently/firmy/swiftly and said its the same for royals.
i know a lot of people will say only get someone who has done it before on royals but i was 100% happy i could do it properly on my snake.

i went home and examined this article ( http://www.vpi.com/publications/dete..._sex_of_snakes ) to check before i did it.

after that i went and got monts out and did it with no problem, he didnt mind at all, he just wondered what i was doing with his bits

now the problem i have is telling the difference between female and male! by looking at the two pics on the link above it looks like a female as i could see what looked like scent gland papillae, kind of like little ants eggs either side of the very slightly inverted cloaca.

i would have taken a pic but didnt have a spare hand
please can you let me know what it sounds like to you, it would be very very helpful.

    kind regards, mike...

from what i hear "popping" is most affective with younger snakes..... the only way i find out my snakes sex is through probing.

can anyone tell me exactly what should i should have seen when i popped it as the differences are supposedly small?

Unfortunately my camera is down and out for the count. Perhaps one of our other members could pop a male and a female of about 6 months of age, take a clear picture of what is seen and post it for this member. Actually come to think of it that would make a good pictorial sticky wouldn't it....hand position for proper popping and so forth then what is seen on various ages and genders of snakes. Anyone up for it?

thats some excellent advice there but im still uncertain if my 6 month old BP is partially retaining its "bits"
are the hemipenes red with blood on ALL males and are the glands white on all females?

    many thanks, Mike...

Popping adults is just as easy as popping babies IMO. If done properly popping and probing are both 100% accurite. The difference is pretty easy to see even if the hemipenes are not fully inverted. If you had a male you would know it.
