i might get an iggy (tame as a dog) but has half a tail please help me

what's the problem? i don't really know iguana's that well but i didn't think it was that uncommon for them to drop their tail and grow a new one... am i wrong?

I would not recommend an iguana as a pet for someone young.. in fact I wouldn't recommend an iguana to anyone. They are BIG lizards. Males top out at 6' long, females 4'. They also have a tendancy to become quite aggressive as they hit maturity. A 6' angry lizard is not something most people want to deal with every day.

They also are going to need quite expensive caging, and a lot of food as they mature. They require UV lighting and a diet of fresh greens every day.

If you want a pet lizard, there are far better choices for a young person such as yourself.

i wouldnt worry about the tail it will grow back, they lose it as a defense mechanism

I agree, bearded dragon is probably a better choice

Agreed, bearded dragons are excellent pets. Iguanas need so much space.


I know a breeder who won't sell an iguana unless she saw the proper set up and space for an adult. That way she knew that they knew what they were getting themselves into.

my aunt had a full grown iguana actually take over a room in her house, it was the computer room but still it took over and lived in the room

Beardies are nice, though still expensive to feed. I'd suggest a leopard gecko or a crestie, personally.. or maybe a skink.

Plus, when that dog-tame iguana hits the breeding season, it tends to turn into a nasty, biting, tail-whipping, aggressive, attacking iguana.
Which is pretty intimidating in a 4 to 6 foot long lizard.

Sure is.. heck even an angry 2.5' iguana can be difficult. I had to give one that size a bath once.. scary I tell you.
