What do you look for in an enclosure?

What is it that most people look for in an enclosure? What are your likes and dislikes of some that are on the market? What are your needs?

Re: What do you look for in an enclosure?

I look for affordability, durability, does it meet the animal's requirements, how easy to clean/maintain, and does it look nice. This is pretty much why I've built all of my enclosures. Some of the ones on the market are very nice; but I can build one that works just as well for a fraction of the cost; that's my main reason for building over buying. But if I was ever to buy one, I'd still use the same criteria.

    For what type of animal?

Depending on the type, size, and requirements of keeping the reptile, I look for various things in an enclosure. Not all are the same

Whatever you want to talk about just be sure to state the breed of the animal and let me know what you look for in an enclosure. If any suggestions to make enclosures better those as well

Re: What do you look for in an enclosure?

For snakes, I like an enclosure with plenty of floor space(the bigger the snake, the more space needed), good temp and humidity retention, a good sized front viewing area, and good security(i.e. locking door/escape proof) as well as affordibility and nice appearance. I too intend to make my snakes adult cages myself.

For arboreal lizards and snakes, height is most important, as is good ventilation and light. And for burrowing lizards and amphibians, a solid, sturdy, moisture proof floor is my first consideration.
