Do you blog?
Recently, a woman got fired from her job at Nintendo because her employers found her personal blog. Here's the story.
Would you get fired for what you say in a blog??

Re: Do you blog?
i definitely wouldn't get fired for something so dumb. my friend got suspended for having a pic taken of her at work as her default pic on myspace. all you could see was her, the wall, and a corner of a picture on the wall. nobody would ever know where that pic was taken and there was nothing on her page that anybody would take offense to.
i think it's wrong that people can get fired for what they do in their private time. i could see the sense in it if they were a public figure, obviously, but.....

Re: Do you blog?
Well I have a Myspace, but I hardly use it. My supervisor is actually one of my Friends on there I don't have time to blog, and my life is that interesting anyway so people woult die of boredom if I typed out what I do everyday (wake, eat, sleep, work, home, clean.. fun!) And everything else is too personal.. I don't want everyone knowing my business.

Wow that's crazy. I'd be upset if I got fired for my personal blog. Then again I wouldn't use name or my place of employment, IMO coworkers, friends, etc need their sense of privacy as well.

Re: Do you blog?
Some of the issues we see such as getting fired over a blog may sound stupid but a lot of times there is more to the story. Was the person blogging during paid work time? Did they comment or make statements about their employer? Did they release private or business information? -Any one of those instances and others are definitely grounds for termination or some form of reprimand. It seems sometimes people are ignorant to the fact that what they are writing about is public. Yes I know the point of these blogs as well as social networks is to get your story out there but it seems some individuals have the mind that no one at work will ever see this, or the person they are trash talking will never see it...WRONG.
Blogs are not bad for what they are but people need to think about when and how to use them. The only time I considered a personal blog is when I was being deployed. I sort of use one now at work which is a service we offer to teachers and staff...for educational uses only. I created one that I copy important emails I send to the staff regarding technology issues or updates so they can be referenced at a later time.
