TV show with Retic on Oct 14th.
Saw a commercial for this show on the National Geographic Channel. It's not specifically about Retics but they go into a cave which, "is invested with pythons and bats." On the commercial they show one of the guys getting apperently attacked by a large retic. I think it bite and coiled around him. Anyway... Looks pretty interesting so I'm going to try to catch it if I'm around.
I don't know how many of you get that channel but where I am it playing at 10pm on the NGC on Oct 14th.

I hope its a good one.
I watched animal planet's "the big squeeze" and in my opinion it gives giant pythons a VERY bad reputation.

OMG you saw that bullsh.............. yeah pissed me off. wife heard me screaming and yelling cause it made me mad. they really give giants a bad name.. i watched one on discovery channel last night... was SOO bad they were telling everyone that a snake can swallow a human whole and they are vicious and should be left in the wild. they said a 15 foot retic can swallow a 6 foot man, they showed things of rectics that were 22 ft + with alligators in their stomachs and gazelles and stuff. they even showed a picture of some guy who was squeezed to death by a 22ft retic and when they came up on him the snake had him positioned to be swallowed and the mans head was in the snakes mouth... they said snakes cannot be tamed, they are vicious "serpents" and should be left alone..pfft....... but yeah im tired of these NON educating tv shows who just say "bad bad bad". but of coruse i will watch the episode you said saw the previews and looks so so.

Snakes have blood, feal fear, breathe air, eat food, drink water, reproduce, and they happen to live in a body which is difficult for the average person to understand. One fears what one doesn't understand. ignorance creates fear. The fear of snakes is not cultivated…we are not born with it…children love snakes, just as naturally as they love dogs and cats. don’t be afraid of a reptile’s tongue…the only animal that can hurt you with its tongue is the human being.

My brother thought i was crazy, i was screaming and cursing.
Plus, the most ridiculous part is the scrub python scene. Why will the snake kill the dog(a very appropiate sized food item) and then not eat it, to go kill and "try" to eat a boy who is 10 times thicker than the thickest part of the python. It is so much bull!

I know- I havent watched the program but I did see the commercial and it really pissed me off. I dont have a giant- and probably never will own a snake over 13ft, but retics are my favorite kind of snake, I just dont have the space for them or the money to make the space. I thought the guy was pretty pathetic too- I was bit my my friends retic about that size, probably give or take a foot, and it did NOT hurt that bad. I mean it didnt exactly feel good, but it was just like a BP bite- only alot bigger. He over-reacted alot.. And yea, I had my grandmother calling after that show saying, "see I told you not to deal with any damn snakes!!" *sighs*....

I just watched the show, and that guy had so pretty nasty lacerations from the bite. Nasty enough that he needed stiches at least. This show didn't seem half bad though.

Yeah. What made the bite worse than a normal "strike and release" is that he spread his legs apart as the snake was latched on and that created lacerations across his upper left leg. I do believe that he was in as much pain as he sounded. With the snake at around 12', a normal bite would hurt, but a bite that rips across like that must be excruciating.
I did not have a single problem with the show, especially since it was a show with an actual herpetologist in it and not some Discovery Channel commentator bad mouthing pythons.

I was watching also. I think I would have brought waders into that cave. And alot of anti-biotics. Can you imagine the possible infection. Open wound poop water not a good sign. Of course the snake could have got him in worse areas. SO maybe I would add a cup to the list.
