    Handling Questions

Hello again. I got my BP settled in nicely. He eats every 5 days, and is active at night. Im just wondering about how often to handle him. I know that if I dont handle him enough, he wont socialize, but I know that too much is just as bad. How long should I have him out? Do I just let him go hand over hand, or should I just set him in my lap and see what he feels like doing? Also, if hes moving quickly, does that mean hes not afraid, or that he wants to get away? Thanks,

    Andrew

    Re: Handling Questions

I try to leave my bp's alone as much as possible, i have to force myself not to pull them out of their tubs all the time. However i do daily maintenance and cleaning so i have the chance to check on each one of them daily, so about 2-3 minutes tops for each one. I only have two that strike or huff and puff at me, but as soon as i get them out of their tubs they are as docile as a puppy.

    Re: Handling Questions

Its all up to you and your snake... Youll learn their body language over time and know what they like and dislike... everyone on here handles theirs differently... some more than others... I personally handle my older ones for like 10-15 mins then I let them down on the floor to venture... Please note I do not do this with my babies... theyd bounce and id never find em... My room is completely locked off and its impossible for them to go anywhere they shouldnt... They may find a good hiding spot now and then but theyre in my room somewhere...Plus when they have free roam time they arnt interested in finding a cozy spot and chilling... they always keep moving so if I cant find one... ill wait 5-10mins and theyll come out wherever they were and i snag em... I usually leave em out anywhere between 1-3hrs depending what I'm doing. I think I'm prolly the only one who does this but I can vouch for it having a positive impact on thier personalities... Everynight theyre waiting by their cage doors for me to take em out... Its actually tough to go into the snake room and not take em out... In the end its all up to you and your snake.

    Re: Handling Questions

I usually take my BP out once a week for a good 30minutes to an hour... but sometimes it doesnt go well cause she likes to turd a lot so I have to be careful...
You can hold ur little guy anyway you want... hands, and lap.
Sometimes my BP will try to get away but I just keep picking her up and put her back where she started... back and forth... lol Sounds like u have a squrmey fella. I dont think he is afraid, if he was afraid he would ball up most likely...
Good luck to ya Ninja Man, and keep ur stick on the ice!
Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.

Why is it called 'after dark' when it really is 'after light'?

    Re: Handling Questions

I take my BP, Kobi, out everyday I can, excluding the 24 hrs after feeding. The 2nd day after feeding I let her sit still in my lap while I watch TV or play on the computer. Any other day I'm her personal jungle gym. When she gets on the floor I'll sit down with her and she'll wraps the tip of her tail through my wrist watch and won't let go, its like her own little way of making sure she doesn't venture too far (bizarre I know; she will only venture the length of her body away from me, then she comes right back and then goes in another direction lol). She is very attached to her momma But to answer your question, 48 hrs after feeding, I will handle her anywhere from 1-4 (or 5!) hours a day, depending on what I have to do that day. If I am just hanging out at the house all day, she hangs out with me (knocks things off tables, takes naps in my shirt or pant leg, tangles herself in my hair (she's quite the stylist lol), pretends to be a bracelet, tries to take my cell phone away from me when I talk on it, you know, little snakie things like that), and goes back in her tank when I have to get ready for bed.

    Re: Handling Questions

I handle maybe once a week, but everyone is checked on everyday for cleaning, filling water, wiping their dirty selves off if they have sat in their poo or pee. I might take one or two out every so often and take pictures, let them crawl around outside(since it's in the low 90s here), or just watch them move around. I think I'll always be intrigued by them, they are such fascinating critters
