A "reduced pattern" typically means the pattern is lacking in the black spots that usually appear in the lighter splotches. And in extreme cases, those lighter splotches are so big and spread out that there are only a few of them....resulting in a pattern that looks less busy (or "reduced" ) than the more common splotched and spotted animals.
