Shedding problem or skin problem?
My python has been going through a long, maybe 2 or 3 week shedding stage. There are some parts falling off but its mostly all still on. First of all, is that normal? Second, his skin looks like it's shriveling. There seems to be more wrinkles specifically towards the head/neck area. Is that also normal? He is eating fine but likes to sit in the corner, behind the water bowl all day. I would assume this is the coldest spot and he is getting overheated, yet my cage is ranging from 78-83. Any tips? thanks.

Re: Shedding problem or skin problem?
Put him in a plastic container large enough for him to soak in (with air holes obv). Fill it up at least half way with warm water. Put him in, close the lid tightly and let soak for about a half hour. Get a towel, take him out and start peeling. It should come off quite easily. If its needed (some skin is still stuck on) then repeat. If its a bad shed (which it most likely is) you'll know as soon as you open the lid and see the skin hanging from him. Don't worry about him drowning (check on him often anyway) all snakes can swim when they have to.

Re: Shedding problem or skin problem?
Hi,
When I first got my BP from a chain pet store he had retained eyecaps and was about halfway shed... it took two more sheds with the correct husbandry before he had a complete (one piece) shed.
I know a few people have 'lazy shedders' that seem to always have a bad one, I think most get good sheds all the time.
As I was saying, your husbandry is key. How are you measuring your temps/humidity? You mentioned 78-83... is that ambient temp, or do you have a cool side and a warm side?
Humidity should be 50-60% all the time, with a bump up to around 70% during shed- I do this when their eyes go 'blue' or just after. Also make sure there is fresh water available all the time.
Here is a great link about problem sheds, and the one below is about the shedding process in general. Hope this helps!

Er,
What kind of snake is it? This is the boa forum but you said python?
I only ask as if we know what it is then we will be more able to give specific advice on temps and humidity.
