I know that is not good so figure I would ask you guys as me or my girl has been misting to keep humidity in right area but I am worried this being a major problem of course. any advice? I am using a 20 gallon glass tank(Yes I knwo tanks are better but out of my price range to redo everything right now.). Newspaper sub. Good sized rounded edge tuperware bowl in center with water in it for humid, Two hides. any ideas?

    Re: Humidity

First I would suggest getting rid of the light, use a UTH connected to a thermostat instead. If you need the light to warm up the cool side, then thats fine, but a light for long periods of time is killing your humidity. I would also try a different substrate. Use aspen, or reptibark, or some coconut fiber type substrate. These will help to increase your humidity, you may still have to mist on occasion, but shouldn't be all that often. Also have you covered the screen top of your tank? Here's the link to a sticky that shows how to cover the tank lid to help keep heat and humidity in.

Hope this helps you. Good luck!!

    Hi,

I can't remember - have you sealed over the top of the tank like in the sticky?

If you have then you can try either putting in a waterbowl with a larger surface area and moving it closer to the warm side or possible even constructing a humid hide to add (don't remove any hides you already have in there this one needs to be extra).

Beaten to the punch again I see.

I think what you should do is save, save some money for a bit, then buy some flexwatt, a tstat and a tub, try www.reptiletubs.com that. It will hold humidity so much better! But for now, maybe try some coconut bark for substrate, that will make the humidity go up, and whenever its dry, just mist it! Anyways hope this helps!

    Re: Humidity

I am sorry I should fo told ya guys. i used to have eco-earth but I am forced to use newspaper right now as the little guy hurt himself on some tape that came loose when I tried to get a tin foil covering over the top. I looked at sticky but how do you get tin foil on top that smooth secured? It looks like it is on the inside of the tank cover but if I do that don't I risk a chance at Mojo hurting himself on any tap[e that will come loose due to humidity?

i have mine in a 20gal tank set up as well. i taped a layer of seran wrap with a layer of tin foil to the TOP of the screen on the OUTSIDE. not the inside. no way for the snake to come into contact with the tape and hurt itself. the i mist the tank once every 2-3 days and it keeps the humidity between 55 and 60 %. if its too high once i mist i just pull some of the seran and foil back to allow it to excape to appropriate levels since she isnt in shed.

    hope that helped?

    Re: Humidity

I'm pretty new at this. What would be recommended as far as measuring devices go for under $20. I just bought a Fluker digital that measures both temp. and humidity. It even records the extremes of the day a records them. Is there something better?

    Re: Humidity

    Hi,

    It's definately on the outside.

Make the tinfoil fit up to the edge of the lid then use the tape to secure it at the edges to the lid the put the rest of the tape on if you want - it's not vital but it definately makes it look better.

And no definately keep him on the newspaper just now - and if you do make a humid hide do it by using damp paper towels that you change frequently to prevent bacterial build up. Keeping him in clean conditions is quite important till he's better.

Oh and Bright - I'm not slackin I'm sleepin. It's 3.45 am over here and I'm fading fast.
