Labeling/Record keeping type of question
I was wondering how people labeled their cages. In pictures of snake rooms there are usually colored dot sticker things on the tub and I was wondering what those meant. Also, I was wondering how people “named” their hatchlings, ie what do you put in the id for each baby.

Re: Labeling/Record keeping type of question
I use Degei software that has easy printing of cage cards so all my tubs are labled. Others use the dots to indicate feedings, breeding times, male/female, etc....but those people have their own system of knowing what each one means.
I don't name my hatchlings but each one is assigned a unique alpha-numeric tracking code that is placed on their tub (once they have their first shed and are sexed)

Re: Labeling/Record keeping type of question
just find something that works for you. For me, I include the year sex and number of every animal in its id. most ppl have a variation on that theme, some also will include the clutch # in the id.
per example 06019_f-spider#004 = 2006 clutch #19 female spider #004 (4th female spider of 2006)
just find something that makes it simple for you to keep everything straight.

That is what I meant when I said naming; I just didn’t know what to call it. What goes into the tracking code?
Also, I have read a few things about writing on eggs. Can you write on eggs and if so, what kinds of pens are safe to use?
Thanks!!
Edit: Lol I was typing as you responded jkobylka

It is called and ID #...in mine goes the year, animal number and sex (ie. 2007-14F) 14th female of this year.
As for righting on the eggs..why would you want to...unless you were mixed different clutches)? My egg boxes only contain 1 clutch each and the boxes themselves are labled with when they arrived, the clutch weight, due date and parents.

Re: Labeling/Record keeping type of question
I use Degei also here is a pic of what my cage labels look like only in color. The program has another size cage card think its 5x7 this ones 4x6 i think. The 5x7 has more info on it.
Heres the pic of the cage card 4x6 and also the link where to find the program

Hope that helped.

are those printed on a sticker type paper, do you tape to the tub, or do you make a "folder" for it slide into?

The software has 2 sizes of cage cards (5x7, 4x6 and what they call a cage label (which is basically the same but no picture so it alot smaller)
You could use sticker paper and attach them that way if you want. I got those magnet picture frames and put a magnet strip on all my tubs...so now the cards are placed in side these flexible frames. The benefit is I can easily move them around with the snake as needed (like cleaning tubs, or in pairing them, etc.)

Re: Labeling/Record keeping type of question
I just stick them to the tub with tape. I would think you could get some kind of sticky paper and print it on. I print these out once a month for all the snakes. Then just switch them with the ones on the tubs. Ive been trying to find the little plastic holder type things that will stick on the tub so i dont have to stick the label on the tub. But i havent been able to find them yet. The info on the cards is always changing everytime i feed or they get weighed. Thats why i change them once a month to keep things kind of up to date. The bigger 5x7 ones look like this
These labels im not sure i would stick on the cage like a sticker. Then you have to try to get them off when you want to put a new one on. If you just want to stick on an id number id get a few pages of blank mailing labels and put an id number on them. Then just stick those to the tub/cages. That way you dont have all that sticky crap thats left behind by stickers.

Not sure you have them but I found mine at a store called the Hobby Lobby. It is a big craft store.
