Shedding Aid
I purchased a small bottle of Zoo Med Repti Shedding Aid. I put some on my snake when his eyes get cloudy to help with the shedding process. He has gone through two sheds with no problem. My question is I have heard that the shedding aid can be used as a skin conditioner between sheddings to make the skin shinny and healthy. I am affraid it will stimulate the shedding response instead of just conditioning the skin. Does anyone else use it to condition or what is your take on the thought of this. His skin right now seems to be fine its not dried out or anything just thought if i condition it then it might help him some.

Re: Shedding Aid
I'm afriad I'm slightly sceptical. If you keep the humidity up when your snake goes into blue then they don't need any kind of shedding aid (besides a hide or something to start the shed on). I'm not sure how many people have used that product. A mist with a spray of water is all I have used.
You don't need anything to condition the skin of a healthy snake that is shedding well.

Re: Shedding Aid
You won't find too many fans of the reptile aid's here. In most cases it's not necessary, and a simple soak in water will clean up any retained shed. If it works for you then that's perfectly okay.
The shed aids just soften up the old skin, and do not actually trigger a shed.

Re: Shedding Aid
I know you can soak them but I bought the aid just in case he had a bad shed because he doesnt seem to like water very much. Everytime I mist his tank with warm water he immediately hides and balls up. When he crosses over his water dish, he does everything he can to avoid getting in it. I think its kinda wierd cause most people say theirs loves to soak. Ill probably just stop using the shed aid unless he has a bad shed. I had just heard somewhere that it could be used as a conditioner. Probably from another one of those sites full of bad advice lol.

Re: Shedding Aid
Shedding aid is a waste of money in my opinion! If provided with proper constant humidity of 50%-60% (which can be bump to 70% while shedding) you should not have any issue, and if you do and your BP has stuck shed 20-30 minutes in a plastic tub with luke warm water up to his back will take care of the problem.

Re: Shedding Aid
Nah, mine are not happy when they get soaked. It's just something they have to deal with, and they do.
