terrarium vs rack
This really isn't a question, just an FYI for new people out there who are deciding what to put their BP's in.
I have two terrariums, and between all the cost for the terrariums themselves, extra heat, extra insulation, the covers, a shelf to put them on, etc....I would have been better off to buy a 6/7 bin rack right off the bat. I wish I had known all the "incidental" expenses that trying to maintain ideal temps in a terrarium was going to warrant versus just getting a rack and being done with it.
Just FYI.
Anyone else have comments/similar/different experiences?

Re: terrarium vs rack
Yeah, for housing multiple snakes, racks is by far the cheapest. Though if you're only ever going to have a couple, then they don't make sense. And some people like to have their animals on display as well. So it's really about what fits your needs the best.
I personally have a mix of racks and display vivs. I like to show mine off - I rotate who's in the display viv every couple of months. This way I get to show all of my snakes off at some point or antoher.

Re: terrarium vs rack
Since I only have one snake to me a viv made more sense really. I plan to get a bophila when my girl gets bigger but for now the 60 gallon we have her in works great. I won't need the extra insluation since I'm in Vegas and my kids flip if it drops below 80 in the house in the winter. I did cover the screen with foil and add moss to add extra humidity and so far everything is staying right on track.

For only two snakes I don't see anything wrong with aquariums if you have it set up right. But racks are better by far IMO. You can purchase racks by the level ar www.arscaging.com and Freedom Breeder(if I'm not mistaken).

Re: terrarium vs rack
Maybe I have odd snakes... I'll preface this whole question with that first statement. My female must be especially odd.
My male BP has not been eating... different post on that so I wont go into it here, BUT I was told that his tank my not be a good thing because it is too big and bins are better. I just have to point out that for my snakes they LOVE to climb. They are forever hiding in their little "bushes" that are in their tanks. Especially the female (Pandora). She will completely blend into her tree and stay there for hours. A couple times I have actually had my nose a couple inches from the glass trying to find her because I couldn't see her inside her hide and then BAM all of a sudden my eyes finally focus on a her head RIGHT there in front of my nose and she had been there all along. They both do this a lot but especially Pandora. Is this typical behavior? And if you do have snakes who hang out in the trees is it really a better solution to have them in a rack system? I ask this because right now we have three tanks for the two of them and yes, it is extensive work to keep them heated and humidified correctly (I'm in N. California so both of those factors change wildly throughout the year) and I am going to eventually want more snakes. I love them as a species and I'm just not sure if a tub or rack system would suit their "personalities" if you want to call it that.

Re: terrarium vs rack
Yep, other snakes do that. My Nagini adores her plants and climbing wood and I have a few pix of her doing a 'branch impression'.
As far as I'm concerned, the choice between tank or tub is based on many things. Number of snakes, personal desire to see your snakes better, decor preferences, budget... quite a long list. Most important, tho, is what your particular snake is most comfortable with...sort of like where and what you feed them. For example, my little girl prefers to eat in a small tub, but once she's done eating she wants nothing to do with that plastic thing. That, and the desire to watch her at night in a nicely decorated tank, is why I have her in a 20gal.
IMO, if you have multiple snakes, are on a budget, and live in a place where temps and humidity can go wild, then a tub rack would be a better investment. If you have the means and desire to keep up tanks and have a few snakes, then go with that.
