    Sad day

Last night i get a phone call from my best friend of 10+ years (i'm 19 now) and he tells me that his grandma is in the hospital and things aren't looking too good, this woman was 83 years old and i saw her a few weeks before i came back to college...she was the nicest woman i've ever had the pleasure of meeting and i tried to comfort my friend and i told him that i'd pray for her and that hopefully everything would turn out alright because she was a strong lady, which she was. You could be in the room with her for 3 mins and you would fall in love with her, she always had something positive to say and she lived a very good life...so last night at about 10pm i get a phone call that she passed, and this was a shock to me because i didn't think the situation was that bad...my friend was a wreck, and this is a 6'2" 215lbs kid that i've only seen cry mayb 3 times in all the years i've known him ...i felt really bad and i cried a little too cuz i've known her for a while...the saddest part is that my friends sister, 7, is in florida with a friend at disneyworld until tomorrow and she doesn't know yet and she was very close with her grandma...anyways i just wrote this because people shouldn't take for granted the people around them because everything can change in an instant.

It will be hard on her family and friends for a long while, it always is when one loses the matriach of a family and one that was so obviously loved and respected by all. When I lost my grandmother who raised me, it was left a huge hole in my heart and sent ripples throughout our very large, extended family who all loved her dearly. In the end though, much as with this lovely woman you wrote about, it was a life well and truly lived and a good number of years given. Draw near her family, share your good memories of her, give hugs and solace for those tears that honor her memory, share a smile over something wonderful she said or did....that's really all one can do in these situations. It's a beautiful legacy from her that she left so many that cared about her and were touched by her life. Not many in this life will be so blessed to leave this circle of love when they go.

you're so right jo! unfortunately when my grandma died, the whole family fell apart. she was the glue, for sure! now we all live spread out across the country and rarely see other fam members that live far away... sad...

Awww hon that's too sad and I'm sure something your granny wouldn't have wanted to see happen. One of my family members did a lovely thing after my grandmother passed. She took a beautiful photo taken at her 80th birthday party and had it copied. Also another picture of grandma and grandpa during a lovely cruise they took after he retired (he passed 10 years before she did). Set of those were sent out to everyone and it really was such a lovely thing to do. Those pictures are some of my most treasured possessions (the one of my beautiful grandmother sits on a special shelf right beside my computer so I feel she's always watching over me ).

Maybe you can do something similar to help your family remember her and the bond she would want you all to treasure even after her passing.
