Question to anyone who breed Ball Python

Question is for anyone who try to breed them. You don't have to be professional breeder to answer my question.

    - How many female you tried to breed the last season, out of how many you tried?

    - How many of them that successed breeding and laid egg, out of how many you tried?

    - How many male refused to breed, out of how many you tried?

    - How many clutch turned bad, out of how clutch your female laid?

My question is for pure statistic purpose. I know many thing has a part into my questions that can alter your result. But I just would like to know the answers just for rough idea on this breeding thing.

    Thanks

Re: Question to anyone who breed Ball Python

Hey T. Here are some percentages from our breedings this year:

Of those females that were bred and locked, how many laid - 72%

Of those males that we tried to breed, how many refused - 0

Of those clutches that were laid, how many turned completely bad - 0

Of the eggs laid, how many were slugs - 8% (one female laid 8 eggs and 5 were slugs, all of the other slugs were singles within a good clutch)

Of all the eggs laid, how many individual eggs went bad during incubation - 3%

    Hope this helps.

Re: Question to anyone who breed Ball Python

I bred three females. I use one Pastel male. I got 2 awesome clutches out of wo of them; one had 8 hatchlings; the other, 4. The other female's clutch went bad purely (I think, at least) from a bad incubator I had whose thermostat crashed and basically cooked the eggs.. I really think that they would have lived if this had not happened. I quickly built a homemade incubator with a Helix t-stat and Flexwatt and my other clutches turned out wonderfully with 100% survival rates.

I normally count on 50% of my females that are of age and size will give me eggs. I have very few slugs, less than 2% of total eggs laid. I personally believe that once you have an egg in the incubator that if it goes bad after 3 weeks its your fault. You were off on humidity or temps. This does not mean that you will not ever get an egg to full term and then have a kinked baby or one that just crawls out and then dies. This just happens. I normally have 1 or 2 of these each year.

I had one male that was actually a hermaphrodite that at 4 years old never actually breed. He was sold this year strictly as a pet to someone. Other than that 99% of 18 month old males will breed at least a few females. Some are lazy and some will go and go until they keel over if you let them. You have to be very in-tune with your animals during breeding season.

    Hgrub,
I have one clutch left incubating, and have been keeping good records this year, as always, and was planning on posting a thread that included all of our numbers and statistics for our breeding season. My last clutch is due to hatch in about 10 days, so be on the lookout.
